Authoritarianism is a form of government characterized by strong central power and limited political freedoms. It concentrates decision-making in the hands of a single leader or a small group. This leadership often maintains power through force or the threat of force, suppressing dissent and opposition. Citizens have little to no say in how the government is run. For example, an authoritarian government might restrict freedom of speech, control the media, or prohibit public gatherings. It may also use propaganda to promote its ideology and maintain control. Such governments often feature limited or no free and fair elections.
